Now you can import your Instagram contacts to Messenger

Facebook and Instagram have started to try a feature that allows you to more easily take your Instagram contacts to Messenger. The experience, which is totally optional for the users of the application, is the latest in a series of integrations between the Instagram and Facebook properties, which previously included the crossed publication of Instagram Stories on Facebook, as well as the ability to launch Instagram application. directly from Facebook.

This time, the two apps make it easy to sync your Instagram and Messenger accounts.

In Messenger, you can now visit the Contacts tab and touch the new "Connect to Instagram" option to add your Instagram contacts to the list of friends you can reach with the instant messaging application From Facebook. You can also add your Instagram contacts from the Messenger registration stream, if you are a new user.

Only your follow-up contacts on Instagram will be imported, so there's no concern that Instagram followers can now send spam in Messenger, even if you do not follow them.

The option makes sense given that Instagram Messaging today is a very used feature: 375 million users were on Instagram Direct as of this April, for example. Presumably, these are Instagram friends with whom you will also want to chat when you are in Messenger.

Integration is another example of how Facebook leverages its multiple mobile properties in an intelligent way to keep users in its ecosystem, and build an even bigger network. social network as a result. After all, not all Instagram users are Messenger or Facebook users.

Also, when the company combines its social graphics in this way, it can better connect the points when there is overlap (which means more social data for long-term advertisers). ).

Facebook and Instagram do not formally announce the launch of this feature, but we understand that it is something that the company has recently begun to test.
