Animal Crossing: New Horizons achieved their third consecutive number 1 in the UK’s Boxing Charts.
The Nintendo Switch exclusively occupies the pinnacle despite a 24% decline week-on-week. This is yet another week where Switch dominates the boxing games business in the UK, with Mario Kart 8: Deluxe at No.2 (sales down 23%), No.8 at Super Mario 3D World (sales at 3% Below), Bros U at New Super Mario No.9 (down 15% on sales), and Ring Fit Adventure at No. 10 (down 37%). There are 10 switch games among the top 20 best-selling games.
Ubisoft’s Just Dance 2021 is number 3 despite a 29% sales decline. This week 87% of game sales went to the Nintendo Switch.
The switch is proving to be a savior for UK boxing retailers. For the first two weeks of 2021, game sales are up 27.4% compared to the same period in the previous year, and that’s almost entirely down to the Nintendo Switch (120% year-over-year sales of Switch games overall) is. If we combine PS4 and PS5 game sales, PlayStation game sales also increase slightly.
The only game in the top ten to increase sales week-on-week was the ever-popular Grand Theft Auto 5, which peaked at number 4 in four places due to a 6% sales increase.
There is just one new game in this week’s chart, and it is the first new game to crack the Top 40 of 2021. Creates Five Nights at Freddy’s: Core Collection No.2, published by Maximum Games. 55% of its sales came on the Nintendo Switch, 24% on the PS4 and 21% on the Xbox One.
