BUFFALO, NY – Nino Niederreiter and Mikael Granlund scored two goals apiece to lead the Minnesota Wild to a 5-4 victory over the Buffalo Sabers on Wednesday for the night.
Tyler Ennis also scored and Mikko Koivu and Ryan Suter each had two badists when the Savage broke a two-game losing streak. Devan Dubnyk made 29 saves.
Niederreiter has scored in five consecutive games, the second longest streak in the history of the franchise.
Jordan Nolan scored twice for the Sabers. Jack Eichel and Sam Reinhart also had goals. Robin Lehner made 17 saves after replacing Chad Johnson after the first period. Johnson stopped 10 shots.
El Salvaje scored three goals in a span of 5:29 in the first period and led the rest of the way.
Marcus Foligno fed his former teammate Sabers Ennis for the first goal nine minutes into the match. game. Granlund scored without badistance to put the Wild forward with 7:32 remaining in the period.
Niederreiter deflected Mikko Koivu's shot from point to put the 3-1 on a power play two minutes later. It was the first power goal the Sabers allowed at home this season.
After Nolan scored his first goal as a saber to put the 3-2 within two minutes of the second, Niederreiter scored the second of the night to extend Minnesota's lead midway through the period.
Granlund got his second goal in a power play with 4:04 in the third to put the 5-2.
Reinhart scored late in the second period for his 100th point in the NHL. Nolan scored his second goal on a wrist shot from the right circle to carry the Sabers inside a goal with 6:05 remaining in the game.
Eichel gave Buffalo a 1-0 6:55 lead in the game. Officials initially ruled that it was not an objective, but the decision was overturned after the video review.
NOTES: Brian Rolston scored a goal in six consecutive games for the Wild from January 21 to February 5, 2008. … This was the first meeting between the teams since the D exchanged by Marco Scandella and Jason F Pominville to Buffalo in exchange for Ennis and Foligno on June 30 … Wild F Chris Stewart returned to the lineup after he was a healthy scratch for Monday 4-3 loss of extra time to the New Jersey Devils. … Dubnyk is 4-0-0 of all time against Buffalo.
