NFL Investigates Sexual Assault Allegations Against Deshaun Watson

The NFL is opening an investigation into allegations of sexual assault leveled against Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson.

Tony Buzbee, the high-profile Texas attorney who has already filed three lawsuits on behalf of Jane Does and says nine women have hired him to bring cases against Watson, posted on Instagram a letter labeled “confidential” from Lisa Friel. . , the NFL’s special counsel for investigations. Buzbee later deleted the post. The Texans confirmed in a statement that the league is reviewing the allegations under its personal conduct policy.

“I am writing to inform you that the League has opened an investigation into these allegations and to request the cooperation of its clients in our investigation,” Friel wrote Thursday in the letter published by Buzbee. “Such cooperation would begin with participation in Zoom interviews with me and another League investigator in which, of course, you would be present. Please let me know as soon as possible if your clients are willing to help us with our investigation of their allegations. “

Buzbee said on Instagram Thursday that the allegations by the nine women are “similar.” The first three lawsuits filed in Harris County, Texas, allege that Watson sexually assaulted masseurs. The first two allege that the quarterback attacked the women “by touching her with his penis.” Those two incidents allegedly took place in March and August 2020, respectively, according to the lawsuits.

The third lawsuit alleges that Watson forced another masseuse to “perform oral sex” on December 28, 2020. Watson, according to the lawsuit, “aggressively” ruled where the woman should touch him during a massage. He repeatedly told her to work on her “inner thighs” and “inner glutes.”

As the masseur grew uncomfortable, Watson “made it clear, repeatedly, that he was a professional soccer player who could help or hurt his career,” the lawsuit states. Later, Watson allegedly “got more aggressive” and told the woman to “run your hand over her genitals,” according to the lawsuit. Then, the lawsuit alleges, Watson “forced the plaintiff to move her mouth toward his penis, forcing the plaintiff to perform oral sex on him.”

Watson, 25, publicly denied the initial accusation, but has not made a comment since. The three-time Pro Bowler is currently at odds with the Texans and has requested a trade.

“We continue to take this and all matters involving anyone within the Houston Texans organization seriously,” the team said.
