LOSER: RB Paul Perkins
Perkins opened last season as a starter, with low performance, was injured and disappeared in the depth chart. He finished the season with 41 carries for 90 yards.
The Giants have now used draft picks for runners in each of the last three drafts and signed a 30-year veteran free agent. Someone has to go to No. 4 on the depth chart … and that seems to be Perkins, who was elected a year before Wayne Gallman and two years before Saquon Barkley.
Perkins did not participate in the three-day Minicamp due to surgery on a torn pectoral muscle suffered earlier in the off-season, a source said. The Giants will probably wear four runners on game days, and Perkins can catch (an obligation on Shurmur's offense) and play on special teams.
