New York City officials want to vaccinate 1 million residents against Kovid-19 in January, saying the federal government and drug manufacturers need to accelerate the production and distribution of the vaccine.
Mayor Bill de Blasio said schools, pop-up clinics and “whoever takes it” will be used to reach 1 million people in the city on Thursday.
“We know that New York City can vaccinate 1 million people in the month of January and really put the thing in high gear,” de Blasio told CNN. “Every time we vaccinate someone, we are one step closer to making coronovirus a thing of the past in terms of that terrible grip in society.”
I amT’s ambitious target, according to city data, has received only 390,425 vaccine doses and has managed only 78,000 shots.
The Mayor said, “This thing is not growing the way it is needed in the United States.” “New York City is going to show that we can start this and get people vaccinated at a record pace. And we want to see the whole country part of it because we need to go faster to fight coronovirus if We want to be fine. “
The US government has fallen far short of its original goal of administering at least 20 million Kovid vaccine shots before the end of the year – something the federal authorities have acknowledged is disappointing. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the US has so far distributed 12.4 million vaccine doses and has vaccinated the first 2.8 million people on a two-shot vaccine regimen from Pfizer or Moderna. US officials say data is reduced from 72 to 96 hours due to reporting delays at the state and local levels. Nevertheless, it is still a fraction of the original goal of the Trump administration.
“We agree that it is lower than what we had expected,” Monsep Saloi, chief advisor of Operation War Speed, the administration’s vaccine program, told reporters Wednesday. “We know it should be better, and we are working hard to make it better.”
De Blasio said that the federal government needs to mass vaccinate all its resources.
Di Blasio proclaims when the city prepares for its New Year’s Eve celebration, even if it is without the usual crowd. Only a few hundred people, instead of the usual thousands, will be in Times Square with masks and by invitation to the ball drop at midnight of 2021. De Blasio said one thing that unites all Americans in this divided country is the year “We want 2020 to get rid of hell.”
