When I was a kid in the 90s, I used to dream of winning the Nickelodeon Super Toy Run: Five Minutes to fill a Toys R Us shopping cart with anything I liked. I had my whole route planned out – stacks of video games, a few Lego sets of choice, and then a fill in the hallway from Nerf.
The world is very different right now, of course, but Nerf may have announced a modern, grown-up version of the dream: hiring a TikTok director to dream up the company’s marketing for three months, giving one lucky influencer $ 30,000 and “A lot of Nerf products” in exchange for helping Hasbro figure out how to appeal to Generation Z.
Oh yes this is definitely a marketing gimmick. But it’s also a real job on the company’s real career site, and you’ll have to submit a real job application and interview for the position if Hasbro likes what you have. You are expected to create 10-12 TikTok videos per month, meet weekly with the Nerf marketing team, and sadly 18 or over to get hired.
It’s completely remote too, so you’ll be interacting via Microsoft Teams, Zoom, or whatever instead of taking a tour of Nerf’s labs or archives. It’s not as fun as it could be!
