Naval forces are conducting search and rescue operations for a missing sailor aboard the USS Nimitz in the North Arabian Sea.
The US 5th Fleet Twitter account officially said on Sunday that people aboard the aircraft carrier called a man at 6:47 pm local time after being unable to locate the sailor on the ship. The sailor was not identified.
The US 5 Fleet stated that the service member status was listed as duty status whereabouts unone.
The fleet said the search was continuing on Monday with assistance from the USS Princeton, US Navy and Air Force aircraft.
“We keep our ship’s family and friends in our hearts during this difficult time,” USS Nimitz commanding officer Abdul Maxik Clarke said in a tweet on Monday.
The USS Nimitz, commissioned in 1975, is the oldest aircraft carrier in active service.
