Green Day They have gone from "Basket Case" to Space Case … in some way.
NASA's Insight Lander, which has now officially arrived at the "Red Planet" of Mars after traveling through space since May 5, has a chip with the engraving "Green Day Since 1986", which led to the legendary punk rockers to declare on Twitter that "I have landed officially on Mars." A photo of the chip can be seen below.
"Today, we landed successfully on Mars for the eighth time in the history of mankind," said NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine (through CNN). "InSight will study the insides of Mars and teach us valuable science as we prepare to send astronauts to the Moon and then to Mars." This achievement represents the ingenuity of America and our international partners, and serves as a testament to the dedication and perseverance of our team. The best of NASA is still to come, and it will be here soon. "
The InSight (interior exploration using seismic investigations, geodesy and heat transport) Lander will spend two years on the surface of the planet collecting data after his 301,223,981-mile journey through the cosmos. The lander also sent an image of Mars to NASA as seen below.
