After a particularly original LG G5 that has not found its audience, a LG G6 attractive on paper as in hands, the South Korean manufacturer continues its offensive on the high-end smartphone sector with the new LG G7 ThinQ with artificial intelligence features, a very fashionable term at the moment
After some flicks of ads on some features for its new high-end mobile, LG has officially launched the LG G7 ThinQ there a few days. This model is very far from the originality of the G5 which some components could interchange. Here, we are in the classic, whether the design, yet quite remarkable in the purely technical characteristics. The LG G7 ThinQ is based on a metal body very well made to have had in hand. It is proposed in blue then, later in the year, in black. A protected glass covers the front and the back. The device is resistant to total immersion for several minutes and can also withstand dust. It is IP68 certified but also MIL-STD 810G, like the LG V30, for example, which means that it has passed military-grade resistance tests such as large twists or falls. We will be able to take it everywhere with us without the fear of damaging it or that it does not work in particularly hostile environments.
Artificial intelligence inside
As more and more of high-end smartphones, the LG G7 ThinQ embeds its dose of artificial intelligence. This covers several areas. The first is the camera where the mobile is able to recognize up to 19 separate scenes to offer the best settings in each case and get an optimal picture. If they are not suitable for the user, it is always possible to use one of the 3 proposed effects. Artificial intelligence also plays a role in the balance of brightness, clarity, resolution, and color if the illumination of the shot is weak.
LG is not the only player in consumer electronics focusing on artificial intelligence can Google is interested too. Thus, the LG G7 ThinQ will be one of the first mobile to use the Google Lens application that allows you to take a picture of one of your friend's clothes or a passerby and to be offered similar items in various shops . Via Google Assistant and Google Photos, the mobile is able to identify and deliver information about a monument, plants, animals, etc. LG has seen fit to offer a specific button to call Google Assistant at the touch of a button, like Samsung with its button dedicated to his personal assistant Bixby. By pressing this button twice, the smartphone launches the Google Lens application.
The new LG G7 ThinQ smartphone is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor associated with 4 GB of RAM and a storage capacity 64 GB expandable via a micro SD memory card. It takes advantage of an LCD (and not OLED) that allows the manufacturer to promise excellent brightness even in direct sunlight, a demand from many users apparently. According to LG, the screen could reach a remarkable brightness of 1000 nits. A reinforced light mode can extrapolate the brightness. In addition, several display modes are available: automatic, economical, cinema, sport, website, game, etc. The display is then optimized according to the contents as the battery consumption.
This screen of 6.1 inches displaying a definition of 3120 × 1440 pixels has a ratio 19.5: 9 FullVision occupying almost all of the facade. LG announces a lower edge 50% thinner than on the LG G6. It has a notch around the speaker and front sensors. This notch may be visible or not. It can also display a colored background. The user chooses what he prefers
On the back, the LG G7 ThinQ smartphone has two 16 MP sensors with wide-angle lens, one of the manufacturer's strengths in this field. At the front, there is an 8 MP sensor with the ability to take selfie with a bokeh effect, to blur the background.
For the audio part, the LG V30 has set the bar very high but the LG G7 ThinQ does not have to blush as it has compatibility with the audio format DTS: X, a first for a smartphone and it is equipped with a Quad DAC Hi-Fi for a particularly rich sound. Multiple settings are possible. In addition, LG has created an internal space that serves as a sounding board to optimize the bass effect like a boombox. The South Korean manufacturer has not been as far as its competitor Sony with its Xperia XZ2 which integrates a component that moves within a specific chamber to create vibrations in relation to the video content viewed.
The LG G7 ThinQ's battery has a capacity of 3000 mAh. It measures 153.2 × 71.9 × 7.9 mm and weighs about 162 grams. Of course, as on all high-end models, the LG G7 ThinQ is equipped with a fingerprint reader, a facial recognition system and fast charging (here Quick Charge 3.0).
new smartphone LG G7 ThinQ will be available in May for a price of about 850 €
