Mom arrested after 5-year-old girl died in suspected drunk driving accident


WICHITA, Kansas (KWCH) Update 2:00 pm – The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office identified 26-year-old Nory Lam as the driver of a car that crashed and killed 5-year-old Aleah A. Reyes early Sunday morning.

Lam, Reyes’ mother has been arrested for manslaughter, driving under the influence, and carrying an open container of an alcoholic beverage.

At this time, investigators believe the Ford Escape was driving west on 47th Street South.

A five-year-old girl died after an alleged drunk driving accident Sunday morning. It happened around 3:15 at 47th Street South and 127th E.

A Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Deputy at the scene tells us that a woman in her twenties was heading west on 47th Street South when she left the road and collided with a concrete culvert at 127th E.

The girl, who was a passenger in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman was not seriously injured and refused EMS treatment.

The deputies believe that alcohol was a factor in the accident.

No other vehicle was involved in the accident.

Accident reconstruction teams spent several hours Sunday morning investigating what happened.
