Microsoft is reported to be in talks to acquire Discord for over $ 10 billion

Discord-designed new online PC game sales business offers a select menu of human-curated games as well as a subscription service. Other gaming sites offer thousands of games with algorithms that make recommendations to users.

Microsoft is in talks to buy the Discord messaging platform for more than $ 10 billion, Bloomberg News reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

Discord has reached out to potential buyers and Microsoft is one of them, according to the report, citing people familiar with the matter, while one of them said it was more likely to go public than to sell itself.

Earlier in the day, VentureBeat reported that Discord was exploring a sale and was in final talks with a party.

Both Microsoft and Discord did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment.

The Covid-19 pandemic has boosted prospects for gaming companies as people stay home and turn to video games for entertainment during shutdowns.

Earlier this month, American gaming company Roblox made a strong market debut after going public through a direct listing rather than a traditional initial public offering.
