Medical unit closed to patients after an influenza outbreak

A hospital ward has been closed to new admissions after an influenza A outbreak.

A virus has been diagnosed in a small number of patients in the Arbroath infirmary and other patients are being monitored in the ward .

Adequate infection control measures have also been established.

Friends and relatives of patients already in the unit have been asked to avoid visiting them if possible

Visitors who have coughs and colds that may be infected are asked not to visit their friends and relatives until they are better.

Dr. Gabby Phillips, chief infection control doctor, said: "The medical unit remains closed and there are better precautions for infection control."
