McKenzie Scott, formerly Bezos.
Howard University, Xavier University of Louisiana, Hampton University and Tuskegee University all announced on Tuesday that they had been donated records.
Howard, who received $ 40 million, Hampton, $ 30 million, and Tuskegee, $ 20 million, revealed that their donations came from Scott, the writer and philanthropist who divorced Jeff Bezos of Amazon last year.
Morehouse received a “generous donation” of $ 20 million, the college said in a news release. But a spokesperson for the school d. Eileen Dodd told CNN that it was not the largest donation the college had received.
Spellman College did not disclose the donation amount or if it was the largest in its history. CNN has reached out to Spelman College for further details.
The presidents of all schools expressed their gratitude for the donation.
“We support the components of this eight-year strategic plan to graduate students on time, retain our talented faculty, enhance our campus infrastructure, and support academic innovation and entrepreneurship. Let’s plan to use the gift immediately. “
Lily D., president of Tuskegee University. McNair said the donation came at an “appropriate time”, as the school is about to embark on a five-year strategic planning effort.
“I started working to fulfill my pledge with the belief that there were two assets in my life that could be of special value to others: these systems helped me with the money I gave, and a belief That those who have experienced inequalities are best equipped with design solutions, ”Scott wrote in his post.
At the helm of six HBCUs, other organizations Scott donated to include Black Girls CODE, RAINN, the Obama Foundation and the European Climate Foundation.
Meanwhile, Scott’s ex-husband and the world’s richest man, Bezos, was already criticized for not contributing much of his wealth to philanthropy. He has donated billions of dollars in recent years to a variety of causes including climate change and food banks, but has not signed the Giving Pledge.
