Mavericks sign sniper JJ Redick in exchange for Pelicans

You can never shoot enough around Luka Doncic.

That’s why the Dallas Mavericks stepped up and struck a deal to add JJ Redick to the mix at the trade deadline. The Athletic’s Shams Charania broke history.

Redick has had a bad year in New Orleans (8.7 points per game, shooting 36.4% from three) and Father Time is catching up with it, but other teams had a feeling that if Redick were placed in another system, he would get back to his old. I. Redick can come off the bench behind Josh Richardson and give the Mavericks quality minutes in both.

Nicolo Melli has taken a back seat this season in New Orleans and had asked for a fresh start elsewhere. The great man got his wish; now we will see what he does with the opportunity.

James Johnson brings some bravery and toughness to a Pelicans team still trying to climb to the playoffs; Between Johnson and Steven Adams, no one will hit the Pelicans. Wes Iwundu wasn’t in the final trade, he’s just Johnson, Dallas’s second-round player in 2021 and some cash.

That’s not bad loot for a New Orleans team that otherwise would have bought Redick and got nothing for him (this moves the Pelicans close to the cap).
