Matthew McConaughey has addressed a rumor that he plans to run for governor of Texas in the near future.

Actor Dazed And Confused made an appearance on Friday’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where he struck up a lengthy conversation with the host of the late-night talk show.

During their exchange, the television personality asked the 51-year-old interpreter if he was considering running for political office in the next few years.

McConaughey said he was open to the idea, although he had no concrete plans regarding a possible move from acting to public service.

Specifically, the actor said that the notion of taking office as governor was’ something I’m considering. Absolutely. What an honorable thing to even be able to consider it!

He also didn’t want to give Fallon too much information about his future plans, noting that he was ‘not beyond that at the moment sir’.

The Interstellar actor later joked that his slightly understated response made him “sound like a politician.”

The topic of conversation then turned to McConaughey’s experience during the recent winter storm that hit Texas, which dramatically impacted the lives of millions of state residents.

The actor noted that they had to carry out multiple repairs to his home during the weather event.

Specifically, the Dallas Buyers Club star said that at his home “a couple of pipes broke” and that “they had to get some drywall out of the house.”

McConaughey also commented that his family “just got out of boiling water for four days” before his interview with Fallon.

He then acknowledged that he and his loved ones had a more privileged living situation and expressed concern for the ‘tens of thousands who are not in as good shape as we are’.

To that end, McConaughey announced that he and his wife Camila would host a virtual benefit concert titled We Are Texas, which will air on Sunday.

The True Detective actor emphasized the selection of Texas natives to perform at the upcoming event; Artists such as Kelly Clarkson, Post Malone, and Willie Nelson are featured in the lineup.

Numerous other figures in the entertainment industry, including Selena Gomez, Jennifer Garner, and Joe Rogan, will also make guest appearances during the webcast.

The emotion in McConaughey’s voice was audible as he told Fallon that “all the money that can be donated will go to large nonprofits on the ground.”

The actor concluded that although the planning of the next event had exhausted him, “there are a lot of people who are not sleeping either, so I can’t complain.
