Mario + Rabbids: the new update of Kingdom Battle adds a second free multiplayer mode. The exclusive Nintendo switch already had a cooperative mode, of course, but this local PvP mode, in which each player can use a single Joy-Con, marks the first time the game allows you to fight against your friends. We've played it and we believe that base game fans will probably find a new way to enjoy the title of the strategy.
However, it will take a while to get used: the system of movement and attack in the base game. allows each character to use a movement, an attack and a skill in each turn, but the PvP mode modifies it in favor of a structure based on tickets. Each team receives three tickets per turn, and one is spent each time any of your three characters moves, attacks or uses a skill. Initially, this may seem restrictive, since it offers you fewer options than in the base game. However, a number of frames of elements scattered around the map can give you additional attacks, skill or movement uses, as well as new enhancers such as damage bonuses and greater chances of their attacks having super effects. These element boxes add another layer of strategy, since you must decide when to try to recover them, when to use them and with which character to use them.
Interestingly, the mode disables the characters and compilations that you have unlocked. and created in the main game, instead it forces you to choose between several preset versions for each fighter. All the characters are unlocked from the beginning, but initially you can only choose your all-purpose version, before unlocking more specific structures like the Rabbid Peach healer configuration, which has more orbs of power invested in its healing abilities. Unlike other game modes, this Versus mode allows you to choose a team of all Rabbids or choose a trio exclusively from the Mushroom Kingdom.
Finally, the new mode can be played on four custom maps, each of which are unlocked from the beginning and are based on the four worlds of the main game. Take a look at one of those maps in our Let's Play at the top of this article, or if you prefer to just watch a direct game, you can do it up. The new PvP mode of Mario + Rabbids is released as a free update for the Nintendo Switch on Friday, December 8.
