An Oregon State team that was chosen to finish last in the Pac-12 before the season heads to Elite Eight after defeating Loyola Chicago 65-58 on Saturday. The Beavers are just the second No. 12 seed to reach the Elite Eight and will face the winner of Saturday night’s game between Houston and Syracuse.

Oregon State scored just three points in the first nine minutes of the game and trailed 9-3 early against the No. 8 seed Ramblers. But the Beavers played stifling defense and finally found an offensive rhythm after the weak start.

Senior guard Ethan Thompson led the way with 22 points for Oregon State, which benefited by making 18 of 20 free throw attempts. Cameron Krutwig led Loyola Chicago with 14 points and 10 rebounds, but the Ramblers struggled from the outside, making just 5 of 23 3-point attempts.
