LONDON (AP) – Jesse Lingard scored a double for Manchester United to beat Arsenal 3-1 and keep pace in the English Premier League title race on Sunday. Saturday.
In addition, a splendid performance by goalkeeper David de Gea left United in second place behind Manchester City before both teams meet next week.
United's first two goals came early from the careless game in possession of Arsenal.
Antonio Valencia intercepted a poor pbad from defender Laurent Koscielny who was supposed to wing Sead Kolasinac. The Ecuadorian quickly advanced and exchanged pbades with Paul Pogba. Valencia fired a low shot that got in between the legs of goalkeeper Petr Cech in the fourth minute.
Lingard doubled the lead 11 minutes after Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi gave him the ball in the middle of United. Anthony Martial connected with Lingard in the area and his effort escaped from a post.
Arsenal returned to the match in the 49th minute when United defender Marcos Rojo tried and could not play Lacazette out of the game. Midfielder Aaron Ramsey was in play when he touched the ball to Lacazette who shot past De Gea.
But the local team's optimism for a comeback was put out in the 63rd when United arrived at Arsenal at halftime.
Pogba drove to the box and stopped Koscielny to pick up a pbad for Lingard, who had an easy touch.
Pogba was then expelled by a stamp on Hector Bellerin's leg, which means that the Frenchman will miss the Manchester derby. 19659008] The marker slightly flattered United with Arsenal playing with enthusiasm and pounding Gea's goal. But the quick reflexes of the Spanish kept his team in the game, especially after Arsenal scored and made a spectacular double save.
It was the first win outside the United team Jose Mourinho in 11 games against the "Big Six" and the first loss at home loss for the Gunners after winning their last 12.
Arsenal fell to fifth place.
