Finally there may be a closure in the Lorenzen Wright case. A man named Billy Turner has been charged with first-degree murder, according to a Memphis Commercial Appeal report.
In early November, the Memphis Police Department announced that they believed they had found the murder weapon. On Tuesday, about a month later, Turner was arrested on charges of first-degree murder.
So far, no more information about Turner and the case has been published. The case has been open since the authorities found Wright's body in the summer of 2010. On July 19, local authorities received a 911 call from someone who was believed to be Wright before he was interrupted by gunfire. On July 28, authorities discovered Wright's body.
Wright was a star at the University of Memphis and spent 13 years in the NBA, where he scored 6,191 points and grabbed 4,943 rebounds. He was selected by the Los Angeles Clippers and played for the last time for the Cavaliers in 2009. Before that, he had also played with the Kings, Hawks and Grizzlies. He was only 34 years old when he was killed.
