The Malaysians entered into a big debate today after a document stating that KLIA could be renamed was going viral on Twitter.
The document mentioned that KLIA can change its name to Sepang International Airport (SIA) and this obviously surprised everyone.
In fact, the tweet was even retweeted by Khairy Kamaluddin himself.
However, speaking with local media, Transportation Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook said there is still no such request to continue with a name change for KLIA. Therefore, everyone can be relieved that the name of KLIA will remain.
"I have not received any request from the Selangor government about it," he said.
According to Malay Mail, it was reported that the proposal to change the name of KLIA to SIA was mentioned during a meeting of the Selangor state council. However, the decision to do so has not yet been set in stone.
The document that went viral online was a page of the minutes of a meeting of Selangor exco dated October of last year.
When the document leaked online, many Malays rejected the idea, stating that the funds used to make the change of brand will be ridiculous and unnecessary. what do you think about that?
