Maid of the Mist set to get two electric powered boats

Two new Maid of the Mist boats will be heading to Niagara Falls, and will not only provide visitors with the thrilling experience of Niagara Falls, but they will also be friendly to the environment.

The new Maid of the Mist ships will produce zero emissions and will operate on lithium-ion battery power. They will be the first all-electric pbadenger ships in North America.

"Guests will experience Niagara Falls without being disturbed by the vibration of engine noise or exhaust gases, the batteries will be recharged for seven minutes after each trip at an 80 percent capacity, which will allow maximum efficiency and battery life, "said Maid of the Mist president Christopher Glynn.

The iconic Maid of the Mist came to the waters for the first time in 1846 as a steamboat. The current ships, Maid of the Mist 6 and 7, were built in the 1990s and will be retired once the new ships are complete in September.
