In what appears to be an unprecedented creative move, the pop icon will direct a film about her life and career – one that teases her much on her social media accounts through script sessions with her Oscar-winning co-writer Diablo Cody Has happened.
That Madonna, whose five-decade career has seen countless musical reinforcements and a run in film production and acting, will direct her journey from the slums of New York City to the heights of global stardom that is rare. Super-famous often feature in their own customized stories as creative consultants and executive producers (such as recent award players such as “Bohemian Rapsody” and “Rocketman”).
Under the wing of filmed entertainment group chairman Donna Langley and producer Amy Pascal, the untitled film landed on Universal Pictures, which the company has named on the Universal lot. A production timeline is unknown and the lead cast is yet to be announced.
“I want to tell you about the incredible journey that life has taken me as an artist, a musician, a dancer – a human being,” Madonna said in a statement. “The focus of this film will always be music. Music has kept me moving and art has kept me alive. There are many untold and inspiring stories and who can tell it better than me. The roller coaster ride of my life needs to be shared with my voice and vision. ”
Langley praised Madonna as “the ultimate icon, humanist, artist and rebel.”
Langley said, “With his eccentric gift of creating art that is accessible as a boundary-push, it has shaped our culture in a way.”
Sara Zambreno and Guy Osieri will executive produce. Senior executive VP of production Eric Byers and director of development Lexie Barta will oversee the project on behalf of the studio.
The project is a reunion of the type of Madonna and Pascal, who together in 1992 formed the passionate favorite “A League of Their Own”.
