The 2021 NFL draft class is packed with quarterback talents, ranging from various systems, playing styles and abilities.
For quite some time, it has been unanimously agreed that former Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence will be the first overall pick, this year from Jacksonville.
Other names such as BYU’s Zach Wilson, NDSU’s Trey Lance, Ohio State’s Justin Fields and Alabama’s Mac Jones are projected to be called up in the first round, after Lawrence.
Ranking quarterbacks after Lawrence is an often debated topic. Some argue that Fields will be the second quarterback retired from the board, while others believe that Wilson is the real ‘QB2’.
Former NFL coach for the Chargers and Falcons, June Jones, has a unique vision. He does not seek to argue who is the second best in the draft class.
He believes the best available quarterback in the 2021 NFL draft is former Crimson Tide Heisman finalist Mac Jones.
“Mac’s accuracy on the deep ball is probably the best I’ve ever rated in my years as a quarterback coach,” June Jones said. “He’s almost 55 percent over 20 yards, which is unbelievable.”
Jones also received high praise for his ability to read his options.
“(Mac Jones) is a catcher watcher,” June Jones said. “I realized that I was watching it on television when they had the correct camera angle. And I really think that’s huge for him. This is how he naturally throws the ball deep. “
Jones is currently projected to be a mid- or late-round pick in the first round.
Roll Tide Wire will post any updates on the status of Mac Jones’ standings ahead of the 2021 NFL draft.
