Roguelike Strategy Game It Hurts So Good Got 500,000 Sales In Just One Week, And Is Getting Content Updates

Devolver Digital and Four Quarters have a pretty roguelike strategy on their hands with Loop Hero, a game that is hard to fully “get” until you look at your watch and realize you’ve just lost several hours in an instant. A lot, and i mean a lot of – of curious players have noticed this week.

Loop Hero It has surpassed 500,000 sales in its first week on Steam, and players average 12 hours.

What is this game? It’s a distillation of moody old RPGs, card drawing deck builders, idle games, and games of chance. Okay, that last isn’t technically true, but I feel like I’m pushing my luck every time I play. I never know when to pull out with my bunch of resources before it’s too late and I’m screwed.

Fill the map with randomly drawn card structures to help and hinder your hero, watch them passively fight fantasy enemies, actively equip increasingly better equipment to suit your class, and keep them alive until they can take on the big boss. – That’s the idea, anyway. Loop Hero it’s hard.

It’s one of those games with an old-school mystique where you have to try things yourself to discover synergies or even full game mechanics, or you have to check out the wiki.

I have yet to get through stage two, I was so close to an absurdly fast Rogue once, but maybe I’ll have my breakthrough soon. I also want to improve with the Necromancer because the skeletons rule.

Aside from the sales update, Four Quarters also confirmed a some upcoming featuresbeef: “a system to save during expeditions, new speed settings and a series of characteristics obtained from bosses”. The developers also claim to give Loop Hero more card types, character classes, and tile transformations this year.
