Liquid oceans in the outer solar system may last longer, study says


New Delhi: In a significant discovery that can propel the search for extraterrestrial life, NASA scientists discovered that oceans that lie beneath the icy surface of distant worlds at the edge of our solar system can hold liquid water for much longer than previously

According to the Daily Mail, it is known that distant objects known to exist beyond Neptune's orbit are too cold to hold liquid water on the surface, with temperatures falling more than 350 degrees below zero Fahrenheit (minus 200 C).

But, there is evidence to suggest that there is a layer of liquid water inside the crust.

NASA's research has suggested that the heat generated by the gravitational attraction of moons formed by mbadive collisions could prolong the life of oceans of liquid water beneath the surface of large icy worlds that lie beyond the orbits of Neptune and Pluto and their moons.

"These objects should be considered as possible reservoirs of water and life." said Prabal Saxena of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in the USA. UU

"If our study is correct, we can now have more places in our solar system that possess some of the critical elements for extraterrestrial life," said Saxena, lead author of the research published in the Icarus magazine.

The search for extraterrestrial life has been going on for years and those involved in the alien hunt or the hunt for UFOs have come many times to provide evidence that justifies their presence. [19659002] (With PTI entries)
