LG is entering a highly experimental phase of being a phone manufacturer, in which it tries to woo new customers with all kinds of unique designs. The LG Wing, with its flip-around display and second screen, is the first in a series of Explorer Project handsets that try to do something different. And, showing LG as the keynote speaker, it also teased the second Explorer Project device, a smartphone with a slide-out, clearly flexible display that could embarrass its rivals.
The teaser is depicted entirely in the GIF above, showing a device where the right hand side pulls to increase the size of the display. And we believe that it will behave similarly to TCL’s concept device which draws the same to leave more screen real estate inside the body of the phone. Given LG’s experience of creating rollable OLED displays for the ultra-fancy range of TVs, it is certainly possible that the technology will usher in smartphones.
