Riga is not able to launch a projected hydrogen trolleybus project, reports the program

For several years already, the municipal company "Rīgas satiksme" and the municipality are proudly telling about the plans to introduce hydrogen public transport in the city. Hydraulic trolley buses had to become the symbol of Riga as the innovation city last fall, but this did not happen, TV3 program "Nekā personīga" says on Sunday evening.

Last November, the first million euros worth of trolleybuses were brought to Riga, but until now it has not left the depot yet. The project worth 16 million is stuck. It was promised to finish in the spring, then in the summer, now the trolleybus is only promising to appear in the streets in the autumn. Project delaying technical difficulties. It may turn out that the laws of hydrogen trolleybus will be further blocked by unpardonated laws, outlined by TV.

Public transport is pride of the Riga City Council, led by the party "Harmony". The city administration takes care of transporting the riders with the latest and most modern trams, trolleybuses and buses. Every year, more than a hundred million euros are allocated from the city budget. Now the challenge is to move to environmentally friendly trolleybuses and buses.

More than two years ago, "Rīgas Satiksme" announced its ambitious plans to transport Rigans to hydrogen-powered trolleybuses. Currently, the hydrogen filling station building is under construction, the facilities have been brought, but the area is still foggy and the weed is growing along the grbad, the program is characterized by the broadcast.

Riga first in the world chose to introduce hydrogen powered trolleybuses, it could attract European money for innovations. Nobody else in the world had ever imagined that a trolleybus could be fitted with a hydrogen plant that would generate electricity. Although the idea for European officials seemed to be welcomed, the project's effectiveness was questioned by scientists.

"Trolleybus is a contact network. I do not understand why a hydrogen trolleybus would be needed," says Oskars Krievs, Dean of the RTU Faculty of Power and Electrical Engineering, pointing out that this would be understandable in the case of a bus.

He also points out that he does not see the reason why a hydrogen trolleybus would be needed to scale small pieces without a load, because it would be easier to solve with lithium batteries, which would certainly be cheaper than the introduction of hydrogen technologies.

Meanwhile Chairman of the Traffic and Transport Committee of the Riga City Council Vadims Baranņikis is convinced that the project is justified

"I repeat that we will emphasize once again that this is a test project for Riga and the trolleybus is taken because the trolley bus can act as a regular trolleybus with the help of wires and k A vehicle with hydrogen combustion. An electric propulsion system powered by hydrogen combustion. Consequently, we will test the equipment of our hydrogen, in the worst case, which I do not believe will, in the worst case, we will remain trolleybus who will serve in the streets of Riga, "he explains.

In the spring of 2016, the Riga traffic at a special press conference announced that 16 million The project was promised to be completed by autumn 2017.

Construction "Rīgas Satiksme" chose the company "Velve" and SIA "Hydrogenis" for the construction of the "Rīgas satiksme" "The badociation" Velve "is building walls, while Hydrogenis is responsible for the production, storage and refueling of hydrogen. The companies came to work last spring, on May 15, the Riga City Council and company management celebrated the foundation of the capsule station. Nils Ušakovs, two months later he reported on his tvitter account on the first trolley bus delivery.

However, the plans were not met. A trolley worth a million was laid in the park and there was also a spring waiting for it. According to "Nothing Personal", an incident occurred in the winter with a trolleybus. Due to the neglect of the employees of "Rīgas Satiksme", the trolleybus is almost damaged by the expensive hydrogen engine. The competition rules required the trolley to withstand minus 40 degrees of cold. However, the hydrogen plant is much more fragile and can be damaged if the temperature drops below plus five degrees, so the trolleybus must continuously be connected to the electricity.

"It was not easy to read the instruction, the instruction was. We got to know it instantly, because we trolleybus report ourselves every minute of every second that happens to her, "explained Rolands Katkēvičs, head of the company Solaris Bus & Coach Ltd., Latvia.

In March of this year," Nothing Personality "observed how specialists are trying to add a trolley to a hydrogen filling tank. The process obviously did not succeed and the experimenters tried to bury the filming group "Nothing Personal".

Riga Traffic recognizes that there are problems with hydrogen filling. It can not be done fast enough and securely. From the beginning of the year

the experiments of Riga Traffic Cooperation Partners with hydrogen in trolleybus may turn out to be illegitimate. Hydrogen is dangerous – when exposed to oxygen, it explodes. Hydrogen storage and refueling are under high pressure. Such facilities should be monitored in particular. European regulations binding on Latvia require that the safety of a hydrogen station be checked for an independent inspection not only before it is put into operation, but even before the refueling of the vehicle is tested. The builders of the Riga Traffic Power Station have not taken this into account.

However, no authority can be sanctioned by the experimenters. The filling stations are the responsibility of the Ministry of Transport, but the rules adopted by the government and hurried at the beginning of this year are chaotic.

All ten hydrogen trolleybuses ordered in Riga have already been produced. Nine are in Poland at the manufacturer, waiting for Riga to be ready to run on the streets.
