Latvian ports in the first quarter handled 15.9% less cargo / Article / LSM.LV



At ports of Latvia this year, in the first three months of this year, 15.556 million tons of cargo were handled, which is by 15.9% less than in the same period last year, according to information compiled by the Ministry of Transport.

The bulk of liquid cargoes handled is made up of oil products – 3,863 million tons, which is a decrease of 31 , 7%

In turn, in the ports of general cargo in Latvia, in the first three months of the year, 3,181 million tons were handled, which is by 16,7% more than in the corresponding period of 2017. Of the 1,209 million tonnes of cargo containers transported by 4,5%, timber – 996,700 tons, which is by 35,6% more, but roll-on / roll off cargo – 853,800 tonnes, which is an increase of 18.8%

In the first three months of this year, the port of Riga, which handled 8.223 million tons, was 11.6% less than in the corresponding period of 2017.

The port of Ventspils follows , in which cargo turnover amounted to 4.913 million tons, which is by 30.8% less, while Liepaja port is still in third place with 1.998 million tons, which is by 22.3% more than a year earlier

The largest of Latvia's ports In the first three months of the year, cargo turnover in Skultes port was 202 100 tons, which is by 13.8% less than a year earlier, followed by Salacgriva port with 103 400 tons, which is by 47.1% more, and Mērsrags port with 93 900 tons, which is 25.5% less.

In general, ma During the first three months of this year, 421,300 tons of cargoes were handled in the ports of Latvia, which is by 6.5% less than in the first three months of the previous year.
