Weis, 24, will replace Kendal Briles, who was hired in the same position by the University of Houston earlier this month.

If hired, this would be Weis' second term in FAU in the last 12 months. Weis, a former Alabama offensive analyst under the then offensive coordinator of Crimson Tide, Kiffin, was hired as FAU's tight-trainer before accepting a job with the Falcons and former Alabama staff member Steve Sarkisian last spring. Kiffin then hired former West Virginia quarterback Clint Trickett in the same role.

According to a request for 2017 public records of coaching contracts, Weis was scheduled to win $ 50,000 as the Owls' tight end coach in 2017. Briles earned $ 350,000 in his only year in FAU with bonuses that came with success of the team by winning their first USA Conference Championship and Boca Raton Bowl.

Weis will have high expectations in his first job as a coordinator, assuming an offense that averaged more than 40 points per game in 2017 but loses three starting offensive linemen, running back Buddy Howell, and dangerous wide receiver Kalib Woods for the ranking . All-American running back Devin Singletary (American Heritage) will return for his junior season after rushing for 32 touchdowns this season, the third most in FBS history.

Weis is the fourth FAU offensive coordinator in the last four seasons, along with Brian Wright (2015), Travis Trickett (2016) and Briles.

A team source told The Post earlier this month that Sarkisian, Kiffin's offensive coordinator at USC and interim coach of the Trojans after the infamous launch of the Kiffin airstrip in 2013, is unlikely That is considered for work. Sarkisian spent 2017 as the Falcons' offensive coordinator before Atlanta's playoff loss to Philadelphia on Saturday.

FAU has not officially announced the rental until Wednesday morning, nor has the school confirmed that another former Alabama coach, Wes Neighbors, has been hired as the Owls' new safety coach.

The news of Weis' hiring came on the heels of the athletic director after Pat Chun was hired to become the AD in Washington state in a play announced Tuesday night.
