LA Metro begins the 12-mile Gold Line extension

Officials held a ceremonious and innovative Saturday morning for the latest expansion of the growing light rail system in Los Angeles County.

The event at Citrus College in Glendora celebrated the start of work on a Gold Line $ 1.5 billion Metro extension from Azusa in the east of the San Gabriel Valley to Montclair in western San Bernardino County.

The extension will have six stations.

The next three years of the project will be invested in the relocation of public services, the hiring of the design and construction team and the finalization of the engineering plans, according to LA Metro. The agency expects to complete construction by 2026 and open the extension by 2027.

Other large projects underway include a connector in downtown Los Angeles to allow rides through the system without changing trains, a subway extension and an extension of Light rail near Los Angeles International Airport which is expected to finally link up with a LAX motorcyclist.
