Kat Zingano dominates Gabriel Holiday

UNCASVILLE, Con. – Cat Zingano’s Bellator debut may take longer than before, but it turned out to be worth the wait.

The popular former UFC title bantamweight title challenger, who tied with Beltor in October last year, was victorious Friday night in a Beltore 245 co-feature bout, as he defeated Gabrielle Holloway by unanimous decision. Zingano (11-4 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) cruised through the first two rounds, then held a third round rally before regaining control and being caught for the win. The judges scored 29–27, 30–26 and 30–26.

“I wanted it to be a quick night, nobody wants to stay here for the full 15 minutes … We went the whole distance and it was good, it was an incredible fight.”

The bout was scheduled to be held at featherweight, but Holloway missed the weight on Thursday, coming in at 150.7 pounds.

The first two rounds were a simple equation, as Zingano scored the takedown, then used top and side controls to dominate most rounds. A 60-5 advantage in critical attacks in the first 10 minutes tells the story.

Holloway (6-6 MMA, 1-3 BMMA) spent his moments in the third round as he managed the reverse position on the ground, then rained punch and elbow from the top position for the better part of a minute. But Zingano again managed to regain control, and ended the fight due to explosions below the top spot.

Zingano landed 31 knees to zero for Holloway, and scored five takedowns for Holloway.

His first fight win since December 2018 was Zingano’s second of his last three struggles, and was the third win of his career. Holloway lost in his last five matches for the fourth time.

Belter 245 takes place on Friday at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Unsville, Conn. At Paramount the main card streams on DAZN followed by prelims on Air and MMA Junkie.
