KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Kansas City Chiefs made two big plays from their quarterback near the end of the game to save Sunday’s 22–17 divisional-round playoff victory over the Cleveland Browns, but that player was not Patrick Mahomes.
After an uproar with the Mahomes in the locker room and out of the game, Chad Henne made two big plays to save the majors. The majors’ final campaign saw him leap 13 yards, which ended with a fourth-and-1 throw to dive to get to the first-down marker.
He completed a 5-yard pass to Chiric Hills to allow the drive to continue and run out the clock.
“When you are around him, you know,” ‘Reid said as to why he trusted Hayne, who is not a regular starter since 2014, when he was with the Jacksonville Jaguars. “Everyone has full faith in him.
“I think we’ll all miss the run, that dive and then the throw.”
Mahom saluted his backup by tweeting, “#HuntingHighPossible” after the game.
Reported by journalists that “#HenneThingIsPossible” was trending on social media, Hayne said the only social media platform he uses is LinkedIn.
“But I don’t think #HenneGivenSunday or #HenneThingIsPossible is going to happen on LinkedIn,” he said. “… Once I got into that hoodle, everybody trusted me. They were pushing for me, I had my back, and this is a great team. It’s one of the things to play and play with this team Great opportunity. Victory. “
Hahn replaced Mahomes in the third quarter. Mahomes was hit hard by Browns linebacker Mac Mackson in a third-quarter effort and rose to his feet. He was taken to the injury tent for a quick examination before being taken to the locker room.
“He’s doing really well,” Reid said after the game. “We’ll see how he is tomorrow, but right now, he is feeling great.”
Mahom’s status for the AFC Championship Game next Sunday against the Buffalo Bills at Arrowhead Stadium is unclear. The Chiefs defeated the Bills 26-17 in Week 6 at Buffalo with Mahomes at quarterback.
After the game, Wilson tweeted that he expected Mahomes to return for the AFC title game, to which Mahomes replied: “All good brothers!”

If Henne is to play instead, the two plays he has made on the Chiefs’ final drive give his teammates some confidence that they can beat the Bills and advance to Super Bowl LV.
“It’s all from the heart,” defensive back Tyrann Mathieu said of Hein on the final drive. Those are the moments that lift teams. ”
