Kansas City chief QB Patrick Mahomes, still in Friday protocol, again in practice on Friday

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Patrick Mahomes was with the Kansas City Chiefs as he began Friday’s practice season, his last bout before the AFC Championship Game.

His participation on Friday will appear to bring the Mahomes on a route to play Sunday. Head coach Andy Reid said the Mahomes took all the snacks in Wednesday’s practice and most of them on Thursday.

The Mahomes were knocked out of the divisional-round playoff win last week when the Browns conceded after working hard on a running play. He has been in the NFL’s concussion protocol.

Three other key Chiefs who were battling injuries were also present to start practice on Friday: wide receiver Sammy Watkins (calf), Clyde Edwards-Hellier (hip, ankle) and cornerback Basha Breeland (concussion, shoulder) running back .

Coach Sean McDermott said Bills was preparing to play Mahomes.

“I think at the beginning of the week we weren’t quite sure, and we wouldn’t really know, I guess,” McMermott said. ” This is probably the trend in that direction, so we are speculating. ”
