Jussie Smollett returns after a police statement

Actor Jussie Smollett on Tuesday rejected any suggestion that he has not cooperated with the police since the star of the Empire The television drama reported that he was attacked by two masked men in Chicago last month. Smollett's representatives issued a statement a day after police said the heavily drafted phone books they gave to detectives this week were not enough for a criminal investigation, the AP reports. "Jussie is the victim here, who has been declared by the Superintendent of Police," the statement says. "Jussie has voluntarily provided his telephone records from an hour after the attack and has given multiple statements to the police." The statement said that Smollett had a good reason to deliver what the police called a redacted file.

"Any written information was designed to protect the privacy of personal contacts or high profile people who are not relevant to the attack," according to the statement. The statement is the most recent between Smollett and the police since he reported that the attack took place on January 29. Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said Smollett delivered some but not all of the phone records that detectives asked him to. Police did not make arrests and said they have not found any surveillance video showing the attack. They released a video of two people in the area at the time they said they were people of interest. Police have collected video surveillance images of cameras in the downtown area and have also extended their search to stores in the area hoping to gather evidence about who may have bought the rope. (This is what Smollett had to say in his first public appearance since the attack).
