The current US box office narrative, by default, is about Warner Bros. and its concurrent releases, if only because it’s doing so many of them. We have already seen as Wonder Woman 1984 Y The little things They’ve gone, and now WB has just released their third simultaneous HBO Max / theatrical release: Judas and the Black Messiah. Unfortunately for Shaka King’s drama Black Panthers, the film, despite looking like the best of the three, has had the worst release. It landed at just over $ 2 million, just a hair above what The little things made it last weekend (his third on the charts).
Third, still hovering around $ 2 million, is The Croods: a new era, which has made more than $ 48 million in 12 weeks. Now that sounds like a lot, but that’s just because this era COVID has made us forget how much money movies used to make (not even half of what the first Croods made nationally). After that is WW84, who has been chasing The Croods since its launch, but it only made $ 1.1 million this week (for a total of $ 41 million). Liam Neeson Shooter it made about the same amount, making it the last of the movies on the list to earn more than $ 1 million.
The two great newcomers this week in addition to Judas and the Black Messiah they were by robin wright land and Kevin Macdonald’s The Mauritanian. The first debuted at $ 940,000 and the second opened at $ 163,000. And, as always, it’s worth noting that no movie will do well at the box office (even after several months) because it’s not really safe to go to a theater and the federal government has done a poor job of taking the necessary steps to help change that.
