John Skipper resigned on Monday as president of ESPN and co-president of Disney Media Networks.
George Bodenheimer, president of ESPN from 1998 to 2011 and CEO until May 2014, will take over as interim president of the company for the next 90 days to help Disney president and CEO Bob Iger find the replacement of Skipper.
"Today I have given up my duties as president of ESPN," Skipper said in a statement. "I have had a wonderful career at the Walt Disney Company and I am grateful for the many opportunities and friendships I have a debt to many, but more deeply Michael Lynton, George Bodenheimer and Bob Iger.
" I have struggled for many years with an addiction I have decided that the most important thing I can do now is to take care of my problem.
"I have disclosed that decision to the company, and we have agreed that it was appropriate for it to resign, I will always appreciate it, the human understanding and warmth that Bob showed here and always.
" I came to this public disclosure with shame, fear and the feeling of having left others that matter to me.
"As I address this issue and what it means to me and my family, I ask for appropriate privacy and a little understanding."

Bodenheimer, 59, was named president of ESPN on November 19, 1998 and continued in office until the end of 2011. then the CEO of the company after Skipper took over as president of the company.
