Moving into the White House doesn’t mean the Bidens don’t have time for a date night.
During a guest appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, First lady Jill Biden revealed that she and her husband, President Joe Biden, still prioritize quality time together amid their busy new lives in the White House. According to Dr. Biden, the two have dinner together every night, without cell phones, which she says helps bring them together as a couple.
“He’s so busy, I’m so busy, but we keep eating dinner,” Dr. Biden said during the interview. “And we have dinner together, there are no phones, the phones have to be off … We sit and talk for a while, and then he has to go back to work late into the night and I’m grading the jobs.”

Dr. Biden also shared that she and President Biden carry on their tradition of Sunday dinners together with their entire family, which includes their daughter Ashley, 39; Hunter, Biden’s son, 51; and their children’s children. The president also has two deceased children, his son Beau and his young daughter Naomi, who passed away in 2015 and 1972, respectively.
“We try to keep Sunday night dinners going. It’s been a bit busy lately. We still do it and the kids are looking forward to it, and I think the traditions really take hold of the kids,” the First Lady said.
She also shared that her granddaughters have picked up some of the nighttime dinner traditions in their own lives.
“It was funny, recently my granddaughters called me and said, ‘Nana’, you know I love having a beautiful table with candles and flowers or whatever I can find to put on it, they said, ‘Nana, we are making our own dinner and we’re doing it Nana style, “Dr. Biden said. “So some of that has penetrated [through the family]. I hope they continue the traditions as well. “
