There are signs that the wait may be over. It seems that Google has finally decided to start updating its main iOS apps. The company released an update for Youtube this weekend, more than two months after its last update.

As explained by 9to5Google, which detected the update, It’s normal for Google to stop updating apps in December due to the holidays. Updates are not released during the holidays because there may not be as many staff as usual to fix any issues related to them. However, updates usually resume in early January. However, that did not happen this year, and a great Most of Google’s iOS apps haven’t been updated since December, the outlet said.

There was immediate speculation, of course, about a possible reason behind the delay. Popular theory was related to Apple’s new privacy labels, whose objective is to inform users about what data the applications collect and if that data is linked to them or is used to track them. Apple released the tags in December, and developers are now required to include them to update their apps and submit new apps.

This theory doesn’t work for YouTube, which already had tags before Google’s update this weekend. 9to5Google claims that Youtube Music, YouTube TV, Y YouTube Studio all had their tags in early February. However, none of these apps have been updated in months.

Google has also come out and said that the delays are not due to Apple’s privacy labels. In January, it started implementing more tags in its apps and also posted a blog about privacy who mentioned the labels.

“As Google’s iOS apps are updated with new features or to fix bugs, you’ll see updates to our app page listings that include the new App Privacy Details,” wrote Rahul Roy-Chowdhury, Vice President of Product , Privacy. “These labels represent the maximum categories of data that can be collected, that is, if you use all the functions and services available in the application.”

Gizmodo has reached out to Google to ask why other major iOS apps have yet to receive updates and when we should expect them. We will update this blog if we receive a response.

Does this mean that Google is not concerned about Apple’s new privacy labels? Oh no. Google’s core business is advertising, and they’ve no doubt had conversations about labels. However, in this case, it’s probably safe to say that the delay in updates is related to something else. Maybe even something completely ordinary.
