Instagram is not the first social site to get into the debate about the tiger selfie. In July, the Tinder dating application asked users not to use selfies with tigers in their profiles, at the request of PETA.

Like Tinder, Instagram is not banning photos or taking selfies. Hashtags still complete automatically in search results. Searches for hashtags like #thinspiration show a window that warns about the dangers of eating disorders and includes a link to a page with mental health resources.
