At least 16 folks have drowned after their boat capsized in India’s southern state of Andhra Pradesh.
Police say 38 folks have been on board the vessel, a lot of them on their approach to a spiritual competition.
Twenty folks survived the accident on the Krishna river close to Vijayawada, about 275km (170 miles) from Hyderabad.
The National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) stated 20 folks had been rescued. Rescue companies are nonetheless trying to find extra our bodies within the river.
The state tourism minister has ordered an investigation into the incident.
Local media quoted police as saying the proprietor of the vessel didn’t have the mandatory licenses to ferry folks, and that the boat was overcrowded.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s workplace tweeted that Mr Modi was “anguished” by the incident.

Boats in India are sometimes overloaded and lax security requirements imply accidents are widespread.
