In a series of tweets this week, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk mocked those who listed the pronouns they would like to use to describe them in their online bios. Now, a group that gave Tesla the top marks as a great place for LGBTQ people to work says it should apologize.

Companies are under greater pressure than ever to create an inclusive environment and support a diverse workforce. The practice of displaying pronouns on social media and in executive bios is used by those who wish to show respect to people who are or as trans, gender non-performing, gender-fluid, non-binary, or intersex. Let’s identify. (They are represented by T and Q in LGBTQ.)

For example, Apple has pronounced Tim Cook and Greg Josvac as pronouns. And Facebook’s settings allow users to customize their gender information and preferred pronouns, or choose not to display them if they wish.

Oyster initials Tweet The words “When you put him / her in ur bio” rub the bloody hands on his face with a picture of a soldier.

After criticizing the tweet from fans and opponents alike, he defended himself Tweet, “I fully support Trance, but all these pronouns are an esthetic nightmare.” he then Told Tesla had the number one ranking on the Corporate Equity Index, an annual list of the best places to work for LGBTQ people.

That prestigious list is compiled annually by the Human Rights Campaign, a charitable foundation focused on equal rights for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.

Now, that group says that Musk should apologize.

The group wrote in response to an investigation by CNBC, “Musk’s insensitive comments contradict HRC’s work with companies every day to create a workplace equality program that provides employees with a safe, inclusive and fair work environment . “

The president of the organization, Alfonso David, asserted, “Elon Musk’s tweet has said that this is exactly what the inclusive leadership looks like today. We are sure of the best ways to advise companies.” Out of. ” He also said, “Musk must apologize.”

Tesla and Musk did not immediately return a request for comment.

Musk has been accused of being transphobic in recent times. In July, he tweeted that “pronouns suck,” but he deleted the tweet after his partner, Canadian musician Grimes, confronted him.

The Corporate Equity Index (CEI) is a comprehensive measurement of workplace non-discrimination policies, practices, and benefits that is critical to the full protection and inclusion of LGBTQ workers. Tesla scored 100 on 2020 CEI based on this important foundation of inclusive non-discrimination policies and benefits.

No benchmarking tool can be solely responsible for the day-to-day experience of LGBTQ workers. The CEI criteria alone are the necessary foundation to include LGBTQ, but do not fully represent what it takes to ensure a fully inclusive and welcoming environment. The CEI is not a cover for bad personal behavior, and HRC condemns Musk’s tweet as an apocalypse.

Musk’s insensitive remarks are completely contrary to how HRC’s Workplace Equality Program works with companies every day, providing employees with a safe, inclusive and fair work environment.
