Homestead police-involved shooting on surveillance video


HOMESTEAD, Fla. – An investigation involving an officer at Homestead is under investigation, officials confirmed.

Miami-Dade County Police say officers from the City of Homestead Police Department responded to a burglary at a house on NE 5th Avenue around 10 a.m. Sunday.

According to police, a suspect escaped, causing the suspect to “hit the officer’s vehicle, which opened fire and opened fire.”

Authorities said the suspect was taken to Jackson South Medical Center in critical condition.

It happened near East Mowry Drive and US 1.

According to a witness, the suspect was harassing people at the 5th Avenue home, forcing himself inside one of his vehicles at one point.

Then someone called the police and when they arrived, the suspect took off.

The officer was not injured during the incident, police say.

The names of the suspect and the officer have not been released, and the investigation continues.
