Hive, a UK-based home automation company backed by British energy giant Centrica, today announced a new flexible indoor security camera. The Hive View camera is part of Hive's home automation product line. You can see Hive's home automation packages on the Hive website. It costs $ 200 or £ 189 (£ 319 for a pack of two).
Hive made the leap into the pond last year with thethat included a thermostat, two smart plugs, two door sensors, a motion sensor, four LED bulbs and a concentrator. Hive will add an internal security camera to the mix in 2018. The Hive View camera comes in black and brushed copper or white and golden champagne.
The Hive View camera works like other home security cameras, capturing video clips when sound or movement is detected. Hive View records 1080p Full HD video with a field of view of up to 130 degrees. In the Hive app, a live color feed is available and includes one-way audio. Captured content is available within the application for 24 hours or in a 30-day continuous and extended video history service called Hive Video Playback, for a fee.
In addition to the relatively standard camera functions, the Hive View camera includes the option to take pictures automatically every few minutes. This could be useful for organizing parties, capturing playtime with your children or other times when you do not want to play as a photographer. It also includes the ability to detect people, so Fido does not send notifications constantly to your phone. Hive View offers a privacy mode, which states that the camera only records videos during the hours you provide.
The camera itself is a small square unit, anchored by a magnet to a thin metal frame, which is also the camera's charger. You can mount the Hive View on a wall, place it on a shelf or, if you are looking for more flexibility, separate it from the metal frame and place it where you want it.
Hive's pricing system is based on monthly payment plans and plans, although you can buy your devices in advance.
The Hive View camera is the focus of a new package called Hive Close to Home Pack. In addition to the camera, the package includes lights, sensors and a plug, as well as the Hive Video Playback service. This package costs $ 350 in advance or $ 14.58 per month for 24 months (which adds up to $ 350), at which time the devices will be paid and yours will remain. The monthly Hive Video Playback fee is reduced to $ 6 per month. If you only want to buy the camera, you can also do it for $ 200. If you already own a Hive package, and you only want to add the Hive View camera, it will cost $ 8.33 per month (for 24 months) or $ 200 in advance.
Smart security cameras are popping up everywhere, and we'll see how the Hive View fairs against competitors likeand in 2018.
