HAZELHURST, Wis. – Authorities say three people died after a medical helicopter crashed in northern Wisconsin. The Oneida County Sheriff's Office confirmed the three deaths on Friday. Deputy Chief Dan Hess said the collision involved an Ascension Wisconsin Spirit helicopter, but said he does not know if the three victims were all Ascension employees.
An FAA spokesman told the WSAW affiliate of CBS that the helicopter left Madison en route to Woodruff and crashed about 12 kilometers south of its destination.
The last contact with the helicopter was Thursday night. The Oneida County Sheriff's Office said Friday that the helicopter was located later in Hazelhurst, a small town about 150 miles northwest of Green Bay.
Authorities say that the last known contact with the helicopter was at 10:55 p.m. Thursday. The dispatchers received a call indicating that the helicopter had disappeared 25 minutes later. At least eight agencies participated in the search.
