Heat vs. Celtics Score: Miami returns with an overtime win against Boston in Game 1

The Miami Heat instigated the Indiana Pacers, slammed the Milwaukee Bucks and bounced back against the Boston Celtics in the opening game of the Eastern Conference Finals. Miami started the series on the wrong end of the 8–0 run and was stranded by more than 13 points in the first quarter, which is completely outrageous. However, it hung around, and eventually ran away with a 117–114 victory in overtime after Jimmy Butler’s clutch play and an incredible, game-winning block by Bam Adebayo.

Butler attacked the basket against Jason Tatum and scored from the top of his arms, earning fouls in the process and giving Miami a double-digit lead with 12 seconds remaining. On the next possession, Tutlum took the front against Butler and went for a dunk, but Adebayo found him at the rim and threw the ball away. Tatum missed a frustrated 3-pointer at the buzzer.

With 22 seconds left in the fourth quarter, Butler hit a 3 in a corner to give the Heat a one-point lead, but, after a timeout, Derrick Jones Jr. made a mis-advice off the ball before going inside the Celtics. Granted. In overtime, Kemba Walker hit a stepback jumper with 23.2 seconds left, but then Butler and Adebayo saved the day for Miami.

Butler finished with 20 points on 7-for-14 shooting, but the Heat’s most important offensive player was Goran Dragic, who had 29 points on 11-for-19 shooting. Miami outscored Boston 35-35 in the final frame and 11-8 in overtime.
Tatum added 30 points on 10-for-24 shooting and Marcus Smart added 26 points on 9-for-18 shooting, but Kemba Walker scored 6-of-19 for his points. Miami tried to get Walker out of rhythm with a combination of 2-3 zones, trapping and switching. This time, it worked quite well.

Game 2 is 7 pm ET on Thursday.
