A University of Hartford pupil faces a hate crime cost after she admitted to covertly harbading her black roommate, in response to police. 

Hartford Police are requesting that Brianna  R. Brochu, 18, be charged with intimidation based mostly on bigotry or bias, after she bragged on social media about rubbing bodily fluids on her roommate’s backpack and tainting her toothbrush and meals, the Hartford Courant reported. 

University of Hartford president Greg Woodward mentioned Brochu “will not be returning to the institution,” in an announcement on Wednesday. 

The incident gained nationwide consideration after Brochu’s former roommate Chennel “Jazzy” Rowe posted a Facebook Live detailing the ordeal, which she mentioned feels like a state of affairs “straight out of a movie scene.”  

In the video, Rowe mentioned she discovered of the abuse shortly after shifting out, when somebody advised her that Brochu posted a celebratory message on Instagram. 

“Finally did it. Yo girl got rid of her roommate!! After 1 1/2 month of spitting in her coconut oil, putting moldy clam dip in her lotion and rubbing used tampons on her backpack, putting her toothbrush in places where the sun doesn’t shine, and so much more I can finally say goodbye Jamaican Barbie,” Brochu, who goes by breezy_bumble_b on Instagram, wrote, in response to a now deleted put up.

In the Facebook Live, Rowe mentioned she has skilled inexplicable throat ache over the previous few months, and believes it might be badociated to Brochu tainting her belongings. 

“I had extreme throat pain and couldn’t sleep, to the point I couldn’t speak… I could barely whisper,” she mentioned.

Many shared Rowe’s ordeal with the hashtag #JusticeForJazzy, and urged the University of Hartford to deal with the problem.

Woodward mentioned college officers had been notified of the incident at 11:48 p.m. on October 17, and by 2 a.m. the following morning the case was turned over to the West Hartford Police Department.

Brochu later admitted to police that she licked her former roommate’s consuming utensils and smeared bodily fluids on her backpack. She is already charged with third-degree prison mischief and second-degree breach of peace, in accordance to the Hartford Courant.   

Woodward mentioned the college plans to proceed working with pupil teams to make sure everybody feels secure and revered on campus. 

“I want you to know that I hear and share your anger and frustration,” Woodward mentioned within the badertion. “Acts of racism, bias, bullying, or other abusive behaviors will not be tolerated on this campus. I pledge to do everything in my power to work with our community to address related concerns together.”
