Half a dozen new vaccination clinics to open in Wayne County

DETROIT – With the announcement that six new vaccination clinics will open earlier this week, some seniors, like Janice Coutilish, 83, are wondering if this is finally their chance to get vaccinated.

ORIGINAL STORY: Wayne County Announces New Senior Vaccination Clinics

“I’ve really talked to a number of women, particularly that each and every one of them has indicated that, you know, they’re all waiting,” Coutilish said. “I think that will definitely be in everyone’s favor.”

Starting Tuesday, the free clinics that will open will include Melvindale, Romulus, Wayne City, Canton Township and Plymouth will be combined into one college along with Highland Park and Hamtramck. Seniors should contact the college closest to them to schedule an appointment.

“So far, particularly in the Wayne community, everything has been located in the Detroit area and very little elsewhere,” Coutilish said. “I am hopeful that now they are going to spread it a bit.”

So far, Wayne County has distributed more than 36,601 vaccines. Another 13,000 are scheduled for this week alone. Coutilish just wants to go ahead and get it over with.

“We have waited a whole year. We have followed all the rules and, you know, we have been patient and now everyone is anxious, ”concluded Coutilish. “Everyone is anxious, but I think six should help.”

Note: Remember once again, these vaccines will only be for residents of the specific communities.

“Every vaccinated resident brings us closer to ending the pandemic,” Evans said. “I also want to thank the state of Michigan for working with Wayne County to ensure that we have more doses to vaccinate our seniors more quickly. The vaccine distribution process is limited by the available vaccine, no one is getting enough of it, but Wayne County is putting the shots into weapons as fast as we get them. “
