Graham steps into ‘uncertain’ spotlight to confirm Supreme Court during strict reunion fight

Sen. Lindsey Graham, as the RSC, prepares to lead the Supreme Court battle in Washington, back in South Carolina in the battle for her political life.

Jaime Harrison, a former Democratic Party official who is trying to run as a nonpartisan in a conservative-title state, is in a virtual tie with Graham – a huge change from the senator’s final reunion that he won by 16 points In 2014, his Democratic challenger went on to win.

Harrison is a prolific craftsman who has blanketed the airwaves with so much advertising against the senator that Graham has Appeal made For money during a television interview. This week the Cook Political Report removed Republicans from the race to “toss” them.

The continuation of Lindsay Grahame’s seat was released by the broken ‘Toss-UP’.

Harrison is hitting Graham aloud on his character, integrity and priorities. And Graham’s Supreme Court flip-flop on affirming justice during an election year has played into Harrison’s statement that Graham’s word cannot be trusted.

“So you have this neck and neck race that is not usually in as red a state as South Carolina,” said Todd Shaw, associate professor at the University of Political Science and African American Studies. South Carolina.

Voting is already underway in South Carolina, but for those on the fence, Graham is about to play the role of a lifetime. From Monday, he will begin a confirmation hearing for Judge Amy Connie Barrett as chairman of the Judiciary Committee.

He has announced an ambitious timeline to get President Trump’s third pick in the High Court ahead of the November 3 election – which will also determine if the three-term GOP senator is out of the job.

“It’s a bit uncertain because this race has been nationalized in some major ways,” Shaw said of Graham’s spotlight.

Harrison is a former president of the South Carolina Democratic Party, former lobbyist, and associate chairman of the Democratic National Committee. He called home “What happened to Lindsay Graham?” An advertisement denounced Trump as a “race-biting, xenophobic, religious bigot” before the 2016 election and then saying the opposite after Trump became president and Graham became the president’s golf partner and staunch aide.

Graham has represented South Carolina in the Senate since 2003 and before that he served 10 years in the US House, where he was the manager of impeachment in a lawsuit against then-President Bill Clinton. He has served in the Air Force and Air National Guard.

All eyes will be on Graham’s leadership next week and his handling of the highly controversial confirmatory hearing amid the coronovirus epidemic.

“It definitely puts a spotlight on them,” said Daniel Vinson, a professor of politics and international affairs at Farman University in Greenville, S.C., “and given that South Carolina is still a Republican state and to this extent As long as he finds himself defending Judge Barrett., And trying to support him, I think he plays well with a good part of the state. ”

Sen. Graham, power trolley ally, will remain ‘in troll’ with rebellion in South Korea

But Vince warned against Graham to give another “Oscar-worthy performance” because of his anger during Justice Brett Kavanauag’s hearing when he accused Democrats of trying to destroy the life of a good man. The blast garnered great acclaim among the conservative base, but turned down some independents and women who were concerned over allegations of sexual harassment from high school imposed by Christine Blacy Ford.

“He probably wants to avoid the voters we saw during the hearing in Kannauj in an effort not to alienate independent voters,” Vinson said. “But if he doesn’t have a mess on the way, I think it might be positive for him. And I also think they have to be careful of coronovirus issues. If it seems like they’re working on that Are. The committee, which is insecure, also can’t play well in parts of South Carolina. ”

Graham endorsed Senate Leader Mitch McConnell’s move to block Senate confirmation hearings on Merrick Garland in the final year of President Obama’s presidency in 2016. He called the Democrats “Use my words against me“If there should be a vacancy of the Supreme Court during the Republican presidential election year.

He reaffirmed his opposition to confirming the justice of the Supreme Court during the state of the election year in 2018. “If an inauguration comes in the final year of President Trump’s term, and the primary process has begun, we will wait until the next election,” Graham said during the 2018 Atlantic Festival.

During the Senate debate on Saturday, just one day before the presidential election, Graham’s decision to hear was confirmed. Harrison accused Graham of breaking his trust with voters: “How good is your word?”

Harrison sided with Senate Democrats for a Supreme Court seat to decide after the election, saying the Senate should instead focus on passing another coronovirus relief bill.

But Graham has doubled up on Barrett’s confirmation as a way to bolster his support among the conservative base, Graham’s leery for his maverick Bipartisan streak, and two Obama votes to confirm the justices is.

“All I can say is that Amy Barrett is highly qualified,” Graham said in Saturday’s debate. “I am the chairman of the Judiciary Committee. The president has every right to do so, and if you are voting Mr. Harrison to ever vote for a conservative judge, you are making a mistake of high proportions.” Trust me for conservative judges. ”

Graham says the Democrats changed the game after Kavanagh and he wants a decent and safe process for Barrett.

“Democrats will have plenty of time to ask him tough, relevant questions,” Graham told “Hannity” this week. “If they try to destroy him, it will fly in his face, as he did with Kavanagh. I’m excited about the hearings I want every American to see Amy Barrett and how much he Is worthy.”

If he succeeded in getting Barrett out of the committee by his desired date of 22 October, he would seal his legacy of reinforcing the conservative leanings of the High Court just days before his election.

“It would be a tremendous achievement for President Trump and our country to have Amy Barrett on the Supreme Court,” Graham said. “It’s going to be.”
