All Floridians over the age of 18 will be eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine beginning April 5.thGovernor Ron DeSantis announced Thursday.

DeSantis made the announcement in a video posted from the governor’s office, saying the age of eligibility would be lowered to 40 or older starting Monday before lowering it to all adults the following week.

“We have now vaccinated more than 70% of the approximately 4.4 million older people who live in the state,” DeSantis said. “And we are ready to take this step.”

DeSantis added that more than 400 Walgreens locations would provide the vaccines in the coming days, adding to the more than 700 Publix locations, 150 CVS locations and 125 Walmart and Sam’s Club locations statewide.

Governor Ron DeSantis announced Thursday that vaccines will be available to all adults in Florida beginning April 5.

“We have made great progress and I look forward to continuing to work hard to make sure that everyone in Florida who wants a vaccine can get it,” DeSantis said, adding that no state mandate requiring a vaccine would be imposed.

Florida will receive its largest dose of vaccines next week, with nearly 700,000 expected according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

That increase includes 122,900 doses of Johnson & Johnson’s one-dose vaccine, 24,000 more doses than last week.
